Historical Foundations of Early Childhood Education 
Thoroughly understanding the fairly short history of early childhood studies helps understand the trail that has been blazed for us already by philosophers, educators, and experts in the field. While the formal study of early childhood education is relatively young, the ideas that much of what we practice today delve deep into historical thought, philosophy, and long-held belief systems that are constantly being redefined. What we know about education and learning is still very limited...as our knowledge of the world we live in evolves and grows, so too will our ideas about learning, children, and our roles as educators.
